Horseman's Talk

Weanling – is a young horse of either sex that has just been taken away from its mother. A weanling is usually between 6months and 1 year old.

Yearling – is a horse that is officially one year old.

Gelding – is a male horse that has been castrated or altered. Most male riding horses are geldings.

Pony – is a small mature horse that will never grow taller than 14.2 hands, which is about 58 inches. A pony can be a boy or a girl.
