Ask, Tell and Command

Remember that horses are successfully trained through a consistent system using rewards and punishments. Horses need their feedback within three seconds. After your horse begins to obey you, do not continue punishment or you will confuse your horse. You must reward desired behaviors with in a few seconds.

You may need to be as stubborn as the horse when insisting that your horse do as you say. Using the Ask, Tell and Command system gives your horse the best chance to understand and obey and to earn a reward.

Once your horse has responded to you, go back to the first stage – ASK.

Always ASK first, then TELL and finally, COMMAND.
